Unveiling an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have discovered plenty of engaging indie games. Yet, one stands out for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is actually a dung striving to navigate to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is straightforward: press a one button to leap. Throughout one hundred fifty levels, battle mini-bosses and visit a market to purchase customizations for your poop character.

Execute your actions carefully, since one mistake forces beginning again. Jump off floating orbs to launch your character higher, cross disappearing platforms, and interact with triggers to open new areas. Collect coins for buying tougher levels as things gets crazy.

Visually, the experience shows off eye-catching stages and a killer music score. The retro visual style with shifting abstract forms evokes memories of fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although difficult to think of similar titles where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment have long included fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, fecal references appears extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, like being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is available now on Steam, with the complete version set to debut on Steam in the fall.
